Tennessee Smokies Promotions Graphics
The Tennessee Smokies just released their promotions schedule for the 2013 season and along with it came a couple graphics I created for the release. Part One of the release centered around the team's year-long promotions (Dollar Dog Nights, Fireworks Fridays, etc.). Since the fireworks are a huge draw I wanted to use them as a backdrop in this graphic. I also thought the sunburst idea would be a cool idea to incorporate as it echoes circus tents, state fairs, etc.--all places people go to get away for a little while and have a little fun. I kept the font on "Promotions" loose as well to go with that theme.
On Part Two of the release I stuck with the sunburst design and an old-timey font to keep with the having fun/"Kids Can Play" (the team's season slogan) theme. With the Gold Glove bobblehead giveaways being the main attractions this year, I used their images as little teases at the top. With them just peeking over the top of the title, it references that there will be a giveaway but at the same time doesn't let you know exactly who will be featured. Thus, you have to click through to the article to find out (the whole point in the first place!).
It was great fun creating these images and hopefully we will have packed stands for all of our promotions this season!
Tennessee Smokies New YouTube Background
If you head on over to the Smokies YouTube page you will see the first creation of our Video Production team for this season as well as the new background created by yours truly. It is a full scrolling background with a nod to the team's club affiliation about halfway down the page. Since I had free reign in terms of design on this one, I experimented a little and stumbled upon the "electrified" logo technique I used in this piece. I combined that with my new love of creating Photoshop lightning and voila!

A Couple Southern Miss Web Graphics
If you head over to the Southern Miss Athletics website you will see a couple of my images making an appearance. The first is the splash page as shown at the top of this post. I had a blast making this one. Since it is for their "Take a Kid to the Game" promotion, I decided to have a little fun with it and "kid-it-up" if you will. I wanted it to have a laid back, cartoon feel and I think the fonts along with the arrows bouncing your eye around the image accomplish that goal...
...And once you click past the ad you will see the article announcing the Golden Eagles new Go Gold Business Partners program. It is a part of their greater Eagle Club which lets businesses in the Hattiesburg area support their Golden Eagles. I am currently working on a brochure to be sent out to local businesses which will probably be making an appearance on this blog in the near future as well!

A New Look to the Tennessee Smokies Website
It's a new season and for me...a new team to work with! As I've mentioned before, I am interning with the Tennessee Smokies for their 2013 campaign, doing--you guessed it--graphic design. The team launched their new website layout today and I am glad to say that some of my work is a little part of it!
I designed the "New Season New Look" intro image at the left center of the page (and pictured above) as well as the Season Ticket, Group Outings, and Kids' Club buttons to its immediate right. I also designed the graphic for the next article in the slideshow about downloading the Smokies Schedule for Outlook. There are sure to be many web graphics posted on the blog throughout the season, as I will be creating designs for the website along with the team's Facebook and Twitter pages. Keep a look out for lots more to come!

Southern Miss Signing Day Mini Poster
As promised, here is the mini-poster that was given out at the Signing Day Luncheon Southern Miss had today. I particularly enjoyed how the rough metallic bars turned out on this piece. I've been having a lot of fun in these past couple projects playing with that silvery gray as an alternate to their black and gold color scheme. As I said before, it seems football season is never over!

Let's Get Started
I will be interning with the Tennessee Smokies this season, and as you can tell by this Facebook cover image, I am ready to get started. I will be in full-on baseball mode from now through late August, but it looks to be an exciting experience. Hopefully I will be able to share tons of awesome projects as the season progresses!
And to celebrate the arrival of baseball season, take a moment to enjoy (in my opinion) the best baseball song around.

Southern Miss Softball Poster & Schedule Cards
Well folks, the Super Bowl has come and gone which means one thing...it's time to get in baseball mode! Well, in this case softball, but it's all the same. Spring will be upon us soon enough (hooray!) and the diamond will be active once again.
As proof, here is the schedule poster and cards I recently finished for Southern Miss Softball. The team really wanted a storm on their poster thus I got to teach myself how to make a little Photoshop lightning. It was a really fun piece to create and I think the storm works well with the silver bars for the title and schedule info.
It was also a fun piece since I had to make the design work as both an 18"x24" poster and fold-over schedule card (the first two images above). The front cover is one of 5 designed with each different sponsor logo where the Frito logo is on the one pictured. There will be plenty of the cards around Hattiesburg, so be sure to pick one up and the follow the team all season long!

Southern Miss Signing Day Ads
As I said in my last post, every season is football season. If you need any further proof, turn over to ESPNU on Wednesday and you can enjoy 11 1/2 hours of Signing Day coverage. Dear Super Bowl pregame, eat your heart out.
Anyway, since Singing Day is approaching that means several colleges will be having festivities based around it. Southern Miss also has the added factor of a new head football coach to make the day even more eventful, as shown by the Facebook cover and splash page I created. It looks to be an exciting day across the country and hopefully both of these events have a strong turnout of Golden Eagle faithful!
P.S. The special mini-poster to be handed out at the luncheon was designed by yours truly as well, but I don't want to spoil the surprise! Be sure to look for it on the blog on Wednesday!
Memphis Tigers Spring Football Schedule
As I titled a previous project, "every season is football season." Here's the proof.
It will be spring practice time for colleges across the country before we know it, and I just finished up a handout for the Memphis Tigers upcoming schedule. The football program had a junior day event today where they handed them out to coaches, recruits, etc. I tried to stick with the kind of layout I created with the "Every Season is Football Season" piece from a little while ago, as this is along the same vein. I went with the pocket schedule look as it let me put a lot of information in a condensed amount of space, thereby letting me have a little fun with the title and side picture. Be on the lookout for more soon!
