UT-Chattanooga 2013-14 Wrestling Media Guide Covers

A couple weeks ago I wrapped up another project for UT-Chattanooga athletics, this time for their wrestling team. I had the pleasure of creating the covers for their 2013-14 media guide for this season. The theme I had run throughout each of them was the metallic title bar, that I now see kind of resembles a stylized boxing/wrestling championship belt. Happy accident, I guess. In my original layouts the bottom half of the front cover was blue instead of gold, but they decided to go with the gold to vary the look a little more between the front and back cover. Overall it was a neat project to work on, especially since I'd really never done anything for a wrestling team before. I was very pleased with the turnout, and hope the team does well this season!

A Hat-centric Personal Facebook Cover Image

I'm definitely a hat guy. I've loved them probably as long as I've loved sports. Because of that, I have always gotten a hats not just from the teams I root for, but from each team I've worked with so far in my sports design career as well. These hats help show the story of my design career in a very neat way that your standard resume or written biography just can't accomplish. They add personality, color, and life to the journey I've been on.

Because of all of that, I decided to create the above image as a cover photo for myself. The hats tell my story so far, and the message below them shows that my drive is only getting started. I can't wait to see what other hats get added down the road.

Tennessee Smokies Media Guide Covers

The Tennessee Smokies home opener is right around the corner (Wednesday, April 10th) and I recently finished up the media guide covers for the books that will be used this season. This project was a lot of fun for me mainly because I knew how many other people would have their hands on these books and I wanted to make sure they were holding something awesome.

I've been loving carbon fiber as a texture recently so I used that on both sides along with the red bar to add continuity between the two sides. The same relation can be said about how the names and titles on each side are laid out as well. My favorite part of the piece is the diamond shape on the front on top of the shiny silver background. There is a really nice depth created by the shadow around it that lets that area (and the title and players subsequently) pop just a little more.

As mentioned, with the season just around the corner, I have created some new concourse signage well that should be making an appearance on this blog soon!

Southern Miss NIT Announcement: Covering Social Media

It has been a busy Sunday for college hoops as March Madness is now in full swing. Both the NCAA and NIT brackets were announced today and it was very exciting to see the Southern Miss Golden Eagles grab a #1 seed in the NIT! As part of this evening's excitement, I was able to help out by getting the message out across their Facebook and Twitter pages. As you can see from the images above, I worked with a layout that could be easily transitioned from one outlet to the next. The Twitter image will also work as a flyer that will be handed out on campus promoting the game on Wednesday.

It was really a neat experience to be involved with a March Madness announcement. It is a pressure packed day for not only the players, but for those of us behind the scenes as well! With Southern Miss being on the bubble, I had to be prepared to go either route with my design, depending on which tournament selected them. Here's to some crazy tournaments and great college basketball the rest of the way!
