Southern Miss Baseball/Softball FB Cover

Above is a recent Facebook cover image I did for Southern Miss Athletics to promote their baseball and softball season ticket sales. I took the lightning bolt theme from the soon-to-this-blog softball poster and schedules I recently finished up. It's been fun working with so many different sports for them and I am surely beefing up my portfolio with each piece. Be on the lookout for more soon!

Double Debut! USM Tennis and Track Posters

As promised, it is a double debut day here on the MJV|ID blog. I just recently finished two posters for Southern Miss and they are hot off the presses! The tennis poster was actually the first project I started working on for the Golden Eagles and I am glad to see the final product. However, I think out of the two posters, my favorite is the Track and Field poster. I went with a golden monochrome scheme and I think it turned out very well. I also think I enjoyed it for the challenge of fitting 14 individuals onto a poster (hello Magic Wand tool!). It was the tougher of the two for me to get off and running with (no pun intended), but once the gears started rolling I could see that I was headed for a pretty solid result.

Stay tuned for the debut of the USM Softball schedule poster and cards. They're just around the corner!

Every Season is Football Season

Just because it's the off-season, doesn't mean that football isn't in full gear, especially for college teams as they gear up for National Signing Day in a couple weeks. I recently finished this piece for the Memphis Tigers to let high school coaches know of their busy off-season schedule. I am particularly happy with how the player on the left turned out in the muted color palette. I really love using a semi-monochromatic feel with my football pieces, as I think the echo the "down in the trenches" mantra. I also think there is a nice balance between left and right on the page, with the title slightly off center so as to not ground your eye in one spot. Be on the lookout for more off-season football items as winter turns to spring and the Tigers gear up for spring practice and their summer camps!

Southern Miss Splash Page & Flyer

If you head on over to the Southern Miss Athletics website you will see my latest work for the Golden Eagles. I created a splash page for their upcoming day of events leading up to their basketball game against UAB.

Below is a corresponding flyer I created that is being handed out around campus and such in Hattiesburg. This was a fun project to work on as I had to transfer the ad into several different formats (splash page to flyer to Facebook cover photo). It was a fun challenge to keep them all having the same general look yet adapting each to fit their individual purposes. Be on the lookout for more Southern Miss work to come!

Knoxville Ice Bears Twitter Background

This is a Twitter BG I did a while back for the Knoxville Ice Bears a while back and realized I had not posted up on my blog yet! It was a quick little piece that I had a lot of fun with. Heck, it is sports after all (and hockey at that)! To see it live, check out their Twitter page.

Southern Miss Facebook Cover Photo

The Facebook Cover Photo by itself
A screenshot of the photo in action!

If you head on over to the Southern Miss Athletics Facebook page you will see my latest work for them gracing their cover photo. They have a big day of events coming up for their January 19th game against UAB, most notably a free concert by Emerson Drive as well as some free food at their Taste of the 'Burg event. I have also created a Splash Page for their main athletics website that should be up soon as well as a flyer they will be handing out around Hattiesburg. I will be sure to post those up on the blog as well once everything is finalized!

Memphis WBB Booster Club T-Shirt Design

The Memphis women's basketball team had me dust off the old illustration skills for this one. Their booster club wanted a T-shirt design for their upcoming game against New Orleans. All they asked for was to have the head coach in an airplane and for me to get creative from there. I had a lot of fun with this one, giving the plane some tiger stripes and throwing in a couple saxophones to reference New Orleans musical heritage. I didn't want to do too much to take away from the the big ol' plane roarin' into town. I also went with a goofy font since the club wanted this to be a fun piece. It was nice to be able to do a little illustration again.

U of M Facebook Covers and Twitter BG's

Happy New Year to all! I am not a big New Year's resolution guy, but this year I am going to try and be a little more consistent with this here ol' blog. I am going to try and update it with at least one post per week of the stuff I am working on. I will start with my 200th post being some Facebook covers and Twitter backgrounds I worked on for the Memphis Women's Basketball team right before the New Year. I have a couple samples of both shown above. I did one of each for the four coaches, keeping the same basic framework around each. I am all about keeping unity on things like these for a team as it helps one to easily relate all the coaches to one another and gives a defined look to the team. Here's to a productive 2013 to all!
